6 Homemade Facials For Radiant Skin
Who doesn’t want a glowing skin! In today’s world, men are equally conscious for their skin as women. Everyone today wants to look their best. Eating right kind of food and keeping one’s self hydrated with 8-10 glasses of water will surely do wonders for your skin. In addition, there are certain facials that can add to the glow in your life and the best thing about them is that they come from right within your kitchen shelves!
So, let’s look at some of the best homemade facials, categorized by skin types that they would be best suited for. Note that each facial involves 4 steps, namely, cleansing, scrubbing, massaging, and applying a mask.
Word of Advice: Although fundamentally, these 4 steps are common, but the ingredients/procedure for each of these steps would differ depending on the type of facial that you are performing. Make sure that these steps are performed for their respective facial only and not for any other facial.
Facials for Normal Skin
1. Tomato Facial:
This facial helps you get a softer skin and a better complexion. Let’s look at the steps involved in applying this facial.
a. Cleanse: Extract juice from 1 to 2 tomatoes and use the juice to clean the face gently with your hands. Perform this cleansing for around 1–1.5 minutes for cleaning and opening the skin pores.
b. Scrub: Don’t worry; the tomatoes that you used to extract the juice will not go waste. Mix tomato pulp with fine cumin powder in the following proportion.
1 tbsp of tomato pulp + ½ tsp cumin powder + 1 tsp rose water
Use this mix to scrub your face for around 2 minutes. After scrubbing, you need to do steaming of the face. Use a commodone extractor to remove black heads from the face (especially from the cheekbones and nose) followed by cold compressions. For cold compressions, put some ice cubes in a large bowl of water and dip a towel in the cold water and place the wet towel on your face for around 40 seconds to 1 minute.
c. Massage: To prepare for the massage, use the following ingredients in indicated proportions.
1 tbsp of tomato pulp + ½ tbsp. of apple + 1 tbsp toned yoghurt
Use the mix so prepared to massage your face for 15 minutes.
d. Mask: This is the last step to the facial. Use the following ingredients in their correct proportion to prepare the mask.
1 tbsp of tomato juice + ½ tbsp. of chandan powder + 1 tsp of sprouted pulses paste (chana or green urad dal)
Apply this mask on the face and wash once it has dried.
2. Chocolate Facial:
This facial helps you get a glowing and lustrous skin. Let’s look at the steps involved in applying this facial.
a. Cleanse: Mix cocopowder and whole milk in the following proportions to prepare the cleansing mix.
½ tsp cocopowder + 1 tsp whole (full cream) milk
Use this mix to cleanse the face for 1 minute.
b. Scrub: Prepare the scrub for the facial by using the following ingredients and apply on face for 2 minutes.
½ tsp raw honey + ½ tsp corn meal (makki ka aata) + ½ tsp coco powder + pinch of baking powder
After scrubbing, you need to do steaming of the face. After steaming, use a commodone extractor to remove black heads from the face followed by cold compressions. Baking powder works wonders in quick removal of black heads.
c. Massage: To prepare the massage mix, use the following ingredients.
1 tsp coco powder + 1 tbsp toned milk cream + ½ tsp cinnamon powder
Massage the face with this softening cream and check out the radiance it brings to your face.
d. Mask: Melt 5-6 cubes of cooking chocolate bar in a double boiler and mix it with milk cream. Apply this mix on the face for 15 minutes. (Make sure that the liquid pack is not too hot; it should be warm when applied on the face.)
Facials for Dry Skin
1. Almond Facial:
This facial is great for moisturizing the skin and lightening the complexion. Let’s look at the steps involved in applying this facial.
a. Cleanse: Cleanse the face for 1-2 minutes with a mix of ½ tbsp. milk powder + 1 - 2 tsp whole milk + ½ tsp almond powder
b. Scrub: Prepare the scrub for the facial by using the following ingredients and apply on face for 2 – 3 minutes.
Grind 2 – 3 almond shells into a fine powder + 1 tsp honey + 1 ½ tsp almond oil
This scrub is very effective for coarse skin.
Note: You can replace almond shells with oats to make a milder scrub.
Follow this with steaming, commodone extraction and cold compressions.
c. Massage: To prepare the massage mix, use the following ingredients.
Mix 1 tbsp of whole milk yoghurt + 1 tbsp avocado paste + tsp whole milk + ½ tsp almond oil.
Massage the face with this mix for 15 – 20 minutes.
d. Mask: Use the following ingredients to prepare the mask:
1 tsp oats powder + paste of 2-3 almonds soaked overnight in milk + 1 egg
Mix and apply on face till dry. Rinse the face with warm water.
2. Milk Facial:
This facial is great for skin nourishment, moisturizing, and glow. Let’s look at the steps involved in applying this facial.
a. Cleanse: Cleanse the face with 1 tbsp of whole milk for 1 or 2 minutes to clean the face from dirt and dust.
b. Scrub: Prepare the scrub for the facial by using the following ingredients and apply on face for 2 – 3 minutes.
½ tsp honey + ½ tsp sugar + ½ tsp olive oil
Scrub the face with this moisturizing scrub. Follow this with steaming, commodone extraction and cold compressions with wet towel.
c. Massage: Continue the facial with a 15 – 20 minutes massage using:
1 tsp whole milk cream + ½ tsp olive oil + 1 tsp mashed apricots
Mix all these ingredients together. While massaging, keep mixing rose water for smoother strokes.
d. Mask: End the facial by using:
1 tsp corn flour + 1 tsp milk + 1 tsp honey
Keep this mask on the face till it feels a little dry or maximum 15 minutes. Rinse the face with warm water.
Facials for Oily Skin
1. Papaya Facial:
This facial is great for oily and pigmented skin. Let’s look at the steps involved in applying this facial.
a. Cleanse: Directly apply papaya juice on the face as a cleanser. Cleanse the face with the juice for 1½ minutes to 2½ minutes.
b. Scrub: Grind ½ tbsp. papaya seeds and mix with few drops of radish juice and ½ tsp of powdered sugar. Use this scrub for 2 to 3 minutes. This scrub is excellent for skin having acne. After the scrub, steam the face for 2 to 3 minutes and follow it up with an intense commodone extraction as an oily face is quite prone to lots of blackheads and white heads. Follow this with a cold compression using cucumber mash. For this, mash ½ cucumber kept in the fridge for 15 minutes and apply the mash on the face for 1 minute.
c. Massage: To prepare the massage mix, use the following ingredients.
Mash of 3-4 papaya slices + 1½ tone milk cream + 1 tsp orange peel mash (to make the mash just put orange peels in mixer & run it till it turns into a gooey mash, add a few drops of water if required)
Use this mix to massage your face for 7 to 10 minutes.
d. Mask: Use ½ tsp papaya juice + 2 tsps multani mitti + ½ tbsp. orange juice and apply on face for 15-20 minutes or till it’s dry. Was the mask with warm water.
2. Fruit Facial:
This facial is used to nourish and rejuvenating the skin. Let’s look at the steps involved in applying this facial.
a. Cleanse: Apple is a great cleanser for oily skin. Make apple pulp in a mixer and use 1 or 2 tsp. of this pulp to massage your face for 2 minutes. This does a great job for oily skin as it helps to shrink pores and tighten and tone the skin.
b. Scrub: Prepare the scrub for the facial by using the following ingredients and apply on face for 2 – 3 minutes.
mash of ½ peach + mash of a slice of pineapple
Scrub the face with this mild mix. You can also add oats soaked in warm milk to this scrub for even better results. Follow this with steaming, commodone extraction and cold compressions with wet towel.
c. Massage: To prepare the massage mix, use the following ingredients.
Pulp of ½ apple + Juice of ½ lemon + ½ tsp. honey + few drops of astringent
Use this mix to massage the face for 7 – 10 minutes. This has a great effect on removing acne from oily skin.
d. Mask: Use the following ingredients to prepare the mask:
Thick paste using 1 tsp each of orange peel and apple peel mash + 1 tbsp oat powder + 1 tsp honey + 5 drops of lemon juice + 1 tsp rose water
Apply this mask on the face for 15 minutes and wash with warm water.
Repeat these facials (according to your skin type) after every 22 - 25 days for most effective results.
