10 Bollywood Friendship movies to Watch this #FriendshipDay
Most of us are Bollywood buffs and cannot deny the influences it has had & continues to have on our lives. For some of us, the movies have largely dominated our childhoods, from Amitabh Bachchan’s angry young man days to the days of Madhuri Dixit, Sridevi & Anil Kapoor to the then & still ruling, larger than life Khans & Kumar, we have always at some point either danced to their songs, mouthed their dialogues or mimicked them & made ourselves laugh.
So peeps today is Friendship Day & we thought we must dedicate a blog to Bollywood Friendship movies. Though bollywood is famous for its off – screen “on & off” friendships, some on – screen friendship sagas have touched our hearts and stayed etched in our memories. Their songs make us nostalgic, dialogues remind us of our own college days & any glimpse of these films surely brings a smile on our faces
So here are some of our favourite Friendship movies:
1. Dil Chahta Hai (2001)
Hands down a cult film. We were instantly drawn to the friendship between the 3 boys – Aakash, Sameer & Siddharth. Their College capers, their girlfriends, their wild Goa trip together, their jokes, their stylish & witty one-liners & wisecracks, their songs; even the hairstyling of all the characters in the movie left us captivated. Each actor looked gorgeous as hell. We could relate to the characters & yes some of us even planned Goa road trips with our friends after watching this movie.
2. Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011)
Exactly a decade later, the same production house churned out another movie with friends. Three hot guys Kabir, Imraan & Arjun set out on a road trip through the most exotic destinations in Spain. Again showcasing some uber cool dialogues, great tongue & cheek humour, smart one liners, thoughtful poetries & mind blowing adventure sports, this movie made us happy & got us smiling out of the theatres.
3. Jaane tu ya Jaane na (2008)
Their friend’s group in college, romance, heart breaks, music, the freshness & the vibe made this movie a very sweet one to watch.
4. English Vinglish (2012)
We women just loved this movie. A story about an unacknowledged/unappreciated housewife & mother, who happens to go the USA for a wedding and makes a fabulous group of friends there - all from different countries & backgrounds. She secretly even likes a hottie French classmate. How we wished at the end of the film that she had dumped her chauvinistic husband & eloped with this guy … sigh !!!
5. Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013)
Ex off screen couple made a great watch onscreen with their group of friends. A great story about how good friends stay connected in their hearts regardless of which part of the world they live in.
6. Andaaz Apna Apna (1994)
How many of us dint fall off our chairs laughing while watching this movie? We doubt there has been any movie funnier than this one. Every dialogue, every scene, every movement, every character including their names were outright hilarious. The love – hate relationship between Amar & Prem had all of us in splits. And for a change the girls in the movie were thick pals too, the gorgeous Raveena from London and Karishma Bajaj made us laugh as much as the other characters in the movie
7. Queen (2014)
Good friendships not only heal us from heartbreaks but also show us new paths in life. That’s what this movie was about. A small town girl Rani who’s life revolves around her fiancé gets unceremoniously dumped by him a day before their wedding. But very bravely she gets her life back on track when she fosters new friendships in Paris with Vijaylaxmi & the other boys in Amsterdam.
8. Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992)
A story about school campuses, Sanju & his friends, his brother Ratan and the spoilt rival gang of Shekhar Malhotra showed us what friends go through in a very competitive environment.
9. Sholay (1975)
The world still remembers the legendary friendship of Jai & Veeru. The song “Yeh Dosti” has been called the ultimate Friendship anthem. This song still gets played on TV & radio every time there’s anything to do with friendship
10. Wake up Sid (2009)
This film takes us through some very entertaining & heartwarming moments of Sid & his college friends. His friendship with Ayesha instills in him the sense of responsibility & basically inspires him to “wake up”
